BOY racers from Itchen Cub Scout packs got into the driving seat for a do-it-yourself grand-prix.
Sixty Cubs from the Itchen North district got together on October 8, 1988, to design and make their own cars with blocks of wood and washers – then they put them to the test on the track.
The Church of the Ascension Parish Hall in Bitterne Park was transformed into a mini-Brands Hatch for the day as Cubs lined up at the starting line.
Scott Burnett from the 31st pack took the ‘fastest car’ title, Simon Curtis from the 8th won the award for ‘best presentation’ and Jeffrey Lockyear from the 29th took the ‘painting’ prize.
