A ROMSEY resident has celebrated a major milestone.

Family and friends of Elizabeth Forsyth Macfarlane gathered at Woodley Grange Care Home in Romsey to celebrate her 100th birthday.

She was presented with a card from the Queen and flowers made by pupils at Stroud Schoo.

Her daughter Joyce Gray said: “She absolutely loved it. She was laughing. Her face lit up when the children came.”

Elizabeth, better known as Lily, spent the rest of the day with her family, including her daughter Gillian who came from America to celebrate with her.

Lily was born in Glasgow on October 2,1918 and married John Macfarlane in June 1942.

She raised her two daughters Gillian and Joyce and was “a great dressmaker” who made Gillian's wedding gown. Gillian.

Joyce said Lily loved dancing, especially Scottish country dance and was a super baker with a great sense of humour.

“She used to bake sponges, meringues, scones. She’s a kind lady. You’ll never hear her saying something not nice about people. She’s a great mother, always caring,” Joyce said.

Lily has four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Joyce, 70, who lives in Southampton and visits her mother every week, said Lily loves her family and this keeps her going.

“She wants to carry on because she wants to spend time with her family,” Joyce added.

After the death of her husband in 1996, Lily moved to Brockenhurst to be near Joyce, before moving to Woodley Grange.
