A NEW bar is set to open in Southampton after licensing chiefs gave owners the green light.

The Nook Bar & Kitchen will move into the vacant space on Havelock Chambers, which was last occupied by Casa Brasil.

Southampton City Council approved an alcohol and entertainment licence application by owners Boozy Berry Ltd.

The bar will now open within the next six weeks, say the company.

In the application Boozy Berry say the new venue will be open from 8am to midnight, seven days a week.

The bar will be selling alcohol between 10am and 11.30pm, Monday to Sunday, and have licence for live music between 10am and 11pm.

No reference was made to how long food would be served for, or what type of food would be served.

But the bid received criticism from a neighbour.

Dr Paul Doherty, who lives above Nook’s proposed location, noted a number of concerns.

“I have young children and I do not want then exposed to the alcoholic environment, secondary tobacco smoke, noise and drunken patrons, which will be a consequence of this approval,” he said.

Scott McLean, managing director of Nook Bar & Kitchen said he was delighted at the outcome of the hearing.

He added: “I hope to bring my own take on a fun, safe and exciting environment, serving delicious food on the menu to all that venture through the doors.”
