Whilst enjoying these last few days of this fine weather walking on Southampton Common, I have observed twice other people and been unfortunate once myself to have been bothered by someone's dog.

All three incidents the dog's owner thinks it's ok for their untrained animal to slobber and pester you.

Sorry the usual "she or he won't bite you" or "it's only being friendly" does not wash when you've got young grandchildren with you.

The particular incident I am on about I was told by the dog's owner that it was the fault of my "distressed grandson" that was the reason his dog invaded our space and was right near to our pushchair.

I am sorry but I was unaware that a thee-month-old child crying can take the blame for someone's unruly dog!

I am not anti dogs and the high amount of dog owners that use the Common are mainly responsible but letting your dog roam from you when you can't call it back is not on.
