A CITY centre road is to close tomorrow for emergency gas works.

Town Quay in Southampton City Centre will be closed eastbound due to emergency gas works.

The work will begin at 9.30am and is expected to last for a minimum of three days.

The road will be closed from the junction which leads to the High Street.

Bus service Unlink says its U1C service will be impacted by the closure.

A spokesperson for Unilink said: "U1C from High Street / Holy Rood Church, will turn left onto Briton Street and follow round to the right onto Orchard Place, then turn left onto Platform Road to resume route to NOCS.

"This means we will be unable to serve: High Street / Telephone House
Town Quay / Platform Tavern

"Alternative Stop: High Street / Holyrood Church."

"The U1A is unaffected."

It follows overnight closures on Portland Terrace also in the City Centre which started on Monday (October 22).

The road will be closed for a fortnight from Portland Street to Castle Way and the diversion route will be via Palmerston Road.

The overnight closures will be in place from 8pm-6am and will last until November 5.
