VEGAN slogans and symbols have been drawn onto a Southampton pavement.

Chalk slogans supporting veganism have been drawn onto a public walkway in Hoglands Park, Southampton.

The artwork was found next to the children's playpark and has phrases such as "eat leaf not beef" and "dairy is scary" written in multicoloured chalk along with symbols of peace and smiley faces.

The artwork also references vegan cafe Thrive and has arrows pointing in the direction of the cafe which is located on Hanover Buildings, opposite Hoglands Park.

One local resident said: "I think it's quite stupid really.

"Its next to a kid's play park and it can't be nice for them to read things about eating a dog."

Another member of the public, India Humphrey, said: "I like it.

"Its not rude or overly pushy – it's just a fun little slogan being used to show a serious issue they obviously feel strongly about."

The Daily Echo asked staff at Thrive about the chalk graffiti, who said the work was not down to them, but a vegan Facebook group which meets up once a week outside the cafe and go to write on the pavements.

Thrive cafe worker Sarah Taylor said: "They meet outside the cafe then they go off and do it.

"Its good for us because it brings some people in, but its not us doing it.

"Some people like it and others don't."
