A FAMILY-friendly day of the dead "extravaganza" will take place this weekend. The event at venue The Brook will be a celebration of all things Mexican - including skulls and skeletons.

Dia de los Muertos - or day of the dead - takes place on November 2 in Mexico and is a chance for family and friends to remember their loved ones. The Southampton event takes place on October 28 and will see representatives from Southampton University's Centre for Mexico host an array of activities including sugar skull creations, Papel Picado, building an authentic Day of the Dead alter collage, learning how to face paint Day of the Dead style and chilli planting.

There will be face painters on hand to transform you for the day and dressing up is welcomed.

DJ Mark James from Southampton's Maximum Funk & Soul Dance Party Soul 45 will be spinning strictly 7" 45rpm vinyl records.

Entry costs £4.50 per adult, £7.00 for adult plus one child or £9.50 per adult plus two children. It's £12.00 for one adult and three children.

There will be a small charge for some craft activities and face painting.

It runs from 1-8pm.
