Compton arrived at Testwood school to play their first away league game of the season, and they were against a Pace side who are known for being very strong and have been all through mini-soccer, so initial thoughts indicated tough times ahead for the Compton lads.

For the first five minutes the game was slow, with both teams having a look at what the other had to offer.

Then the game got into gear with Compton much the stronger team, winning battles all over the pitch.

This seemed to surprise Pace, and when the ball fell in the Pace area Ben Rouse was the first to react and he kept his cool and made it a deserved 1-0 to Compton.

Compton were then streaming forward, much to Iain and Dane's despair and despite anchoring the full backs, it didn't stop Sam Jurd having another one of his speculative shots from all of 100 yards, unfortunately on this occasion the keeper watched as the ball went wide, but on another day it could so easily have gone in.

Compton then thought they had a second when Nathan played an excellent ball into the area and on ran Tom Lawrence to score, but it was flagged offside.

The pressure continued as Compton peppered the Pace goal, Jack's 20 yard rocket was an absolute peach, and was well saved by the Pace keeper, and he duly received applause from both sets of fans.

As the game neared half time, it was more of when Compton would score a second, and this was the case when Jack curled in a near post corner and after 10 deflections, made its way to Ben Rouse to score his and Compton's second of the game.

George Stanton had very little to do throughout the half, but had to be on his toes when a Pace corner sparked mayhem in the Compton goalmouth, players were throwing themselves at the ball to stop Pace scoring, and eventually George pulled off a smart save down to his right hand side. Half time, 2-0 Compton.

Pace started the second half brightly, and after a silky move resulted in a shot just wide from their number 4.

Jack was working hard to swing the momentum back in Compton's favour, and saw a couple of efforts fly just wide, one being a free kick from just outside the area.

However, Pace looked stronger and more determined in the second half and created some great chances, this was a real test of Compton's defence who had lost David at half time and was replaced by the equally impressive George Elsey.

With Pace having the majority of possession it led to a glorious chance and it looked as if they had made it 2-1, but Ben Rouse had tracked a midfielder and had carried on his run all the way to the goal line and made a match winning sliding clearance.

Great work from Ben and he showed good awareness.

This then led to a Compton attack with Duane causing havoc for the Pace defence with his unbelievable pace (no pun intended) but he saw his effort go just wide.

This then wetted Duane's appetite and he went looking for his first league goal of the season but he continued to shoot either straight at the keeper, or just wide.

As the Compton team began to grow in confidence they pushed for a third, despite Iain and Dane saying we should just see out the 2-0, but these boys don't know how to sit back and rest on a lead, they are always looking for more (Supporters dreamManagers nightmare!!) and after Connor had cleared the Compton goalline for the second time in the game, they really turned on the style.

Connor who was all over the pitch then showed his quality at the other end when he put in a fantastic cross, which Scott Barker put away to give Compton a well deserved 3-0 lead.

Duane was still on the hunt for his first league goal of the season and like buses, he waits for one and two come along at once!! The first was from another cross from Connor and Duane coolly finished making it 4-0.

The second was after a very unselfish bit of play from Jack when he could have run on himself and scored, instead opting to pass and Duane obliged by riffling it in the top corner. 5-0 to Compton at Full Time.

Another clean sheet for George and the Compton defence, even Clive putting a rabbit on the pitch for most of the second half couldn't effect the concentration and determination.

Well done to George Elsey for stepping in for the second half to cover for David, the defence looked just as strong and it was typified midway through the second half when George made an out of this world' challenge when it seemed the Pace striker was through on goal.

It was sad to hear that Scott Boeser couldn't take part in the game due to illness, but I'm sure he will be thrilled with the result, and we look forward to him returning next week.
