On behalf of Alzheimer’s Society would like to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to your readers for uniting against dementia by supporting Southampton Memory Walk.

Across Southampton more than 2,500 people are living with dementia and 850,000 are affected UK-wide.

Dementia devastates lives. Every pound raised through Southampton Memory Walk will help Alzheimer’s Society provide vital information and support, improve care, fund research and create lasting change for people affected by the condition.

I was incredibly proud to be with 2,070 people who united against dementia at Southampton Memory Walk. The walk has already raised more than £78,000 with sponsorship still coming in, helping us in our commitment to invest £150 million research over the next decade.

I am so grateful to all the walkers and volunteers who made the event possible. I want to thank the Daily Echo for highlighting Memory Walk, and playing a vital part in raising awareness of dementia and helping to fight against the isolation it causes.

We look forward to seeing you next year!

Nick O’Donohue, Alzheimer’s Society Operations Manager for Hampshire and the Channel Islands
