SOUTHAMPTON junior neighbourhood wardens have been finding out how to stay safe while celebrating Halloween and bonfire night with the support of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hampshire Constabulary.

A group of 55 seven to12-year-olds visited Hightown Fire Station in Sholing for a tour of the building and to receive safety advice to take back home and support their communities with.

They met fire crews, police and first aid staff to discover how to stay safe, particularly at this time of year.

Councillor Satvir Kaur cabinet member for homes and culture said “As the nights draw in and the weather turns colder, Halloween and Bonfire night are fun ways to celebrate autumn. I hope everyone enjoys the many festivities that this season brings and the sense of community they create. However, burning pumpkins, bonfires and fireworks are potentially dangerous traditions and it is important that our juniors learn how to protect themselves, their families and their neighbours in the event of an emergency.”
