A HAMPSHIRE couple have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Nesta and Rupert Noye from West Totton married in 1953.

This weekend they will be celebrating their landmark anniversary by out going for a meal with their two daughters, five grandchildren and six great grand children.

Nesta said the couple "look after each other and share everything".

She added: "We don't argue and we are open and honest about everything."

The couple met when Bournemouth born Nesta was 19 and Rupert who was born in Middlesbrough was 29.

Rupert moved to Bournemouth when he was four years old and the couple were first introduced to one another by Nesta's friend who was married to Rupert's brother.

Six months later the couple were engaged and married a year after they met.

Nesta said: "We have been happily married ever since."

Rupert served in the Royal Air Force for nine years as a rear gunner and

after this he worked for British Gas.

Due to Rupert's career change, the couple moved to Southampton in 1957.

Nesta worked as a secretary before taking a two year break to look after her two daughters Paula and Elizabeth who are now 54 and 51 and live in Chandlers Ford and Bitterne.

She then returned to work as a sales section leader at C&A's in the city.

The couple lived in Woolston for 30 years before down sizing to live in Totton.

Rupert retired in 1988 and Nesta in 1993.

After retiring Nesta volunteered for the Blind Association.

Nesta said: "To manage to be together for this long is quite something, we are so lucky that we have been able to celebrate 65 years together and many people aren't able to.

"We love each other just as much now as we did when we first met all those years ago."
