A NEW micro bar has popped up in the city centre.

Crammed Inn is now open for business at the former Oceans gift shop and left luggage site on the High Street in Southampton.

It is offering premium keg and cask ales along with a good range of wines and spirits, specialising in gin, including locally sourced beverages from Upham Brewery.

The business is the brainchild of local businessman Matt Lucker, who has had spells in charge of The Dolphin, in St Denys, and The Tramstop Bar & Kitchen in Portswood.

Matt is aiming to creating a relaxed community bar for people living in the centre by welcoming an array of local acoustic artists into the premises.

He wants it to become a place where people come to talk and enjoy each other's company over a nice pint or drink.

He said: "This space is perfect for what we're looking to achieve.

"It's run by me and my children are all shareholders so we want to really make it a community pub for people to get behind.

"There are some nice places in Southampton and we think Crammed Inn could be great for people living in nearby developments and those coming off the cruise ships."

At present, the bar is open between 4pm and 11pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10am and 11pm on Thursdays, 10am and midnight on Friday and Saturday and 12pm and 6pm on Sundays. It's closed on Mondays.

The space has been completely redecorated. An eclectic mix of art and old maps of Southampton adorn the walls, with high tables and sofas dotted around the room.
