A BOOBY-TRAPPED fire was started by arsonists who allegedly left gas canisters underneath a rubbish blaze.
Angry firefighters have hit out after the incident, which happened at 8pm last night in Denmead near Ashling Park Road.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue says that a mattress, leaves and rubbish were alight, and a crew from Waterlooville was called to put it out.
Firefighters discovered that there were four LPG gas canisters concealed underneath.
A statement said: "A crew from Waterlooville were called to a rubbish fire last night in Denmead.
"A mattress, leaves and rubbish were alight.
"However, concealed underneath these were four LPG gas canisters - two containing gas."
The fire and rescue service posted on social media: "Words fail me."
Police have been informed of the incident and anyone with information can call Hampshire Constabulary on 101.
