SPENDING seven whole days in a shopping centre watching miniature cars go round a track may seem a nightmare scenario to some.
But for more than 80 competitors taking part in the International Slot Racing Association’s World Cup, held at Southampton’s Ocean Village, it was serious stuff.
Each of the racers spent anything up to £1,500 on the tiny cars and their hand-held radio controllers.
Amazingly, each racer even had their own pit team of mechanics who worked between heats on tiny tyres, axles and motors.
You can check out the pictures from the event held on October 25, 1997, in the gallery above.
