POLICE have launched an arson probe after a lorry was set on fire, causing £50,000 worth of damage to the vehicle.

As previously reported, firefighters were called to a late-night blaze in Hythe.

Crews from Totton, Beaulieu, Hardley and Hythe rushed to Shore Road at 0.09am today after reports that a vehicle fire had spread to an industrial unit.

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman told the Daily Echo that a lorry was completely destroyed in the fire, along with a nearby lean-to.



The fire also spread to a building, which was also damaged.

Crews used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, and ventilation equipment to put out the fire.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Police said the incident is being investigated as an arson.

They added in a tweet: "We'd like any private #CCTV businesses or people in the area may have. Call 101 quoting 44180422357."
