WHAT would you choose to put inside a time capsule?

A time capsule has been buried in a Hampshire historical site, and there are some very interesting inclusions.

The Daedalus village site, formerly the Royal Naval Air Station Lee-on-the-Solent (HMS Daedalus) will be going through a major housing development which will see 200 new homes built.

Eddie and Mollie Rees met at the site after both of them were drafted there in 1959 and 1960, and married a year later at nearby St faith's Church with a full naval service wedding.

Eddie said: "We met one evening at the local pub, The Victoria Hotel, now the Bun Penny, and after walking her home to camp we set a date for the next evening. Things moved on from there and we were married by the Naval Padre Rev. Beasley at St Faiths Church here at Lee in 1961.

He added: "Fond memories came from here. Courting in the darkened TV room at the Eagle Club or the various bunkers and huts behind the Wrens block. The cinema near the Field Gun crew track was also a great night out."

To commemorate the start of work on the site, Radian Group and Homes England teamed up with members of the community to bury a time capsule on the site, which will include family photos of the couple, including their wedding photos.

More than 35 people attended last Thursday’s ceremony to celebrate the step forward in the Daedalus Village project, including Gosport Borough Council leader Cllr Mark Hook, Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage and members of the Lee Residents Association.

Pupils from Lee-on-the-Solent Junior School added elements such as school uniform and exercise books and helped bury the capsule, which will remain in the ground until 2043.
