HMS COLLINGWOOD enjoyed a festive cake sale.

Volunteers from The Women’s Royal Naval Service Benevolent Trust visited the Base with multiple stalls providing a range of mouth-watering goodies ranging from lemon drizzle cake to chocolate brownies, carrot cake to cupcakes.

Christmas cards and books written by WRNS were also available.

Lieutenant Commander Jane Pitzii joined the Royal Navy in 1989 and was on hand to encourage personnel to part with their money for such a great cause.

She said, “As well as this annual cake sale and other events including Open Day here at Collingwood, we also have a presence at HMS Sultan’s events.

"This doesn’t just raise funds but also raises awareness of the Trust and what we do.”

More than £746 was raised for the charity.

Sarah Ayton General Secretary, WRNS BT said, “Thank you to everyone who’s participated in the cake sale, be it as a baker, a helper or a customer and in particular Glyn Hughes from Aggies and the bacon butty team who very kindly donated £280.00 as a result of their sales.

"The support from across the Collingwood site was really appreciated.”

The Women’s Royal Naval Service Benevolent Trust was formed in 1942, its objective being to provide relief in cases of necessity or distress among its members and their dependants.

Although the Women’s Royal Naval Service was disbanded in 1993, the WRNS BT continues to help over 230 families each year, spending in the region of £300,000.
