A HUNT has been launched for a driver who allegedly mowed down a teenager outside a Southampton pub before turning round and "trying to run everyone over".

An 18-year-old was left injured after the incident, which happened in the early hours of November 18 outside the Swan pub in Portsmouth Road, Woolston.

A spokesman from the pub, who did not want to be named, said: “It happened just after 12 AM and a young man was run over.

“He was just walking past the pub on the opposite side of the road with a group of people when a car hit him.

“Everyone ran out of the pub but the driver was coming back and deliberately tying to hit other people.

“It was shocking.”

In an social media post on Facebook The Swan Pub posted: “Please share, silver Ford Focus ‘03 – will have a smashed windscreen this morning.

“Ran a boy over last night, he is in hospital.

The statement added that the driver "came back repeatedly trying to run everyone and anyone over.

“Need to find out who this manic is.”

In response to the post, one Facebook user said: “Hope he recovers and the person who did it is caught soon.”

Sylvia Bignell, 77, who lives nearby, said: “I did hear a bit of noise at around midnight on Saturday but I didn’t think much of it.

“I wouldn’t want to walk down this road at night. The traffic is too busy anyway.

“There are always cars racing up and down here."

Alex Hill, 42, who has lived in Portsmouth road for ten years, said: “My wife said there had been an accident but we didn’t really know what had happened."

A spokesperson from Hampshire Police confirmed the incident and said: “The pedestrian, an 18-year-old from Southampton, was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment and discharged later that day.

"The matter is under investigation.
