TWO parents on trial over the death of their six-week-old son took the baby to a drink-fuelled party on the night of the infant’s death, a jury was told.

The court heard how the pair brought the baby, a bottle of vodka and a crate of beer to the gathering, before inviting a smaller group back to their flat to continue the party.

Just hours later, the infant was found in the flat, in Southampton, with severe fractures to his body.

The baby also had bite mark to his nose, which the prosecution claim was inflicted by the father.

The evidence was heard on day two of the couple’s trial, in which the 17-year-old father faces an allegation of murder.

The mother, 19, faces an accusation of neglect.

Neither can be identified for legal reasons.

Yesterday, the jury heard from those who attended the party, which took place in a flat near to the couple’s home in the early hours of February 11.

One witness said the couple carried a bottle of vodka and a crate of Budweiser to the party, and their child in a swing chair.

The witness said the couple’s friends took it in turns to look after the child during the party, which ended around 1.30am.

The court heard the defendants continued to party with a smaller group of friends at their own flat until 2.30am.

Jury members also heard from a neighbour of the defendants, who claimed to hear screams coming from the property around 4.30am.

The witness told the court, that the couple argued “constantly” and she had complained previously. But she said this occasion “wasn’t normal” and called the police.

She added: “It sounded like she was screaming. It sounded like she was scared or like something had happened.”

On Tuesday, the jury heard the six-week-old boy was found with severe fractures to his body, as well as sustaining a bite mark to his nose.

The couple both deny the allegations against them and say the baby fell off a sofa.

The trial continues today.
