THE CHRISTMAS light switch on event in Hedge End, has been cancelled.
The Hedge End Town Council confirmed that they have taken to the decision to cancel tonight's event, due to adverse weather conditions.
The event was set to run between 4.30pm and 6.30pm tonight, with the light switch on at 6pm.
A spokesperson for the Hedge End Town Council confirmed that "The event is cancelled due to adverse weather conditions making it not safe for the show, but the lights will still be turned on at six."
All stalls and grottos have been cancelled, including performances from Father Christmas.
Everyone is still welcome to the bandstand in Hedge End Village Centre to see the lights go on at 6pm.
The lights were set to be switched on by the Deputy Mayor of Eastleigh, and the Hedge End Carnival Queen and Court.
Eastleigh Borough Council also says it has closed Itchen Valley Country Park until lunchtime today due to the winds.
