STAR bands including Band of Skulls are set to take the stage and pay tribute to a man described as the “force behind the Southampton music scene.”

As previously reported by the Daily Echo, in September this year hundreds of people took part in the first-ever GlennFest in memory of Glenn Lovell.

The event was organised by Glenn’s friends and family after he took his own life and aimed to be a celebration of music and life.

This year’s event is designed to both pay tribute to Glenn, as well as raising awareness of mental health issues.

Following the success of the first initiative, which raised money for Solent Mind as well as bereavement charities Simon Says and The Red Lipstick Foundation, GlennFest II is now set to return on Saturday.

The event will take place at The Joiners, in Southampton.

The popular music venue was once managed by Glenn, who died aged 43.

His friend Mike Spall, one of the organisers, said: “GlennFest Part II came about when we were organising the first event because we just had such an overwhelming number of bands that wanted to get involved. Not only wanting to pay tribute to Glenn but also to help raise awareness of mental health issues and raise some money for charity.”

Among the artists set to perform are the Dead!Dead!Dead! , Band of Skulls, Grant Sharkey, Alaskan Pipeline, Soma High, Mirage, Dan O’Farrell&The Difference Engine and DJs Andy Farley and Neil Downton.

“Local legends Dead!Dead!Dead! were one of Glenn’s favourite bands so it was only fitting that hey should headline,”Mike said.

He added: “It seemed fitting that this event should take place at the venue Glenn used to run, The Joiners. With such a high profile band on the bill, we are expecting the event to sell out, so grab tickets while you still can.

“There will be more GlennFest events next year.”

The event will start at 3pm and will again support Solent Mind, Simon Says and The Red Lipstick Foundation.

Tickets cost £10.
