A HAMPSHIRE care assistant has scooped a top award.

Sue Burroughs, a senior care assistant of Challoner House Care Home in Chandlers Ford, has been crowned a winner of the Care Home Worker Award at the Regional Great British Care Awards 2018, and has made it through to the national finals.

More than 400 social care workers attend a glittering awards ceremony at Birmingham for the regional finals of the South West Gala event.

The South West Regional Awards are part of the Great British Care Awards, a series of nine regional awards celebrating excellence across the care sector.

The purpose of the awards is to promote best practice within both the home care and care home sectors, and pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

Senior care assistant Sue received the regional title for the “Care Home Worker Award” for her hard work and dedication to the people of Challoner House Care Home. When presenting the award, the judges described Sue as “a devoted staff member who has contributed greatly to the success of the home".

Rebecca Orman, general manager of Challoner House, said: “Sue Burroughs is an extraordinary member of staff that residents and relatives have come to love and respect. This award has been a great acknowledgement of all of her hard work and kindness, I am very proud to have her on my team.”

Challoner House Care Home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals. Challoner House provides residential care and nursing care for 47 residents from respite care to long term stays.
