FIFTY-four people have already been arrested in Dorset Police’s annual Christmas drink and drug driving campaign.
The crackdown started on December 1 and runs until January 1.
Inspector Joe Pardey said: “In the first ten days of our campaign I am very disappointed to tell you that 54 people have been arrested in Dorset for drink or drug driving related offences.
“Despite the fact that driving under the influence of drink or drugs is selfish, dangerous and now unacceptable to everyone, there are still those who continue to put lives at risk.”
Members of the public can report suspected drink or drug drivers by calling 999 if they believe the person is an immediate risk. Otherwise, they should call 101 or email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk.
A Dorset Police spokesperson added: “Our advice is simple. Plan ahead, leave the car at home, and use a taxi, public transport or designated driver to get home.”
Last year, Dorset Police recorded 95 arrests during their Christmas campaign and in total 53 people were charged with drink driving related offences.
