A BODY has been found inside a building destroyed by fire in Porchfield.
Isle of Wight Police this morning (Thursday) confirmed the death and said they were contacting next of kin.
A spokesperson said: "We were called by our colleagues from the Isle of Wight Fire Service to reports of a fire at a residential property on Porchfield Road shortly before 8:40pm on Wednesday, December 12.
"A body was found inside the property. We are still in the process of contacting next of kin.
"Investigations at the address are ongoing but at this stage the death is not being treated as suspicious."
Investigators are due to arrive from the mainland this morning to determine the cause of the blaze.
Isle of Wight fire crews, police and paramedics were called to the blaze at Corf Road, between Porchfield and Newtown, shortly after 8.30pm last night.
It was initially believed no-one had been hurt.
