A SOUTHAMPTON man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a fatal crash near Winchester.
Officers say a 72-year-old man died after a crash on the A31 near Ropley on Wednesday, December 12.
The crash, which took place around 2.50pm, happened near to the junction with the A272, Petersfield Road.
It involved a Fiat Doblo and a Volkswagen Crafter.
The driver of the Fiat, Eulogio Sanchez Candal, 72, of Hinckes Road, Wolverhampton, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed.
The Fiat’s passenger was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen, who was uninjured, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.
The 22-year-old from Southampton been released from custody but remains under investigation.
Officers would like to hear from anyone who was driving on either the A272 or A31 at this time and saw the collision take place at this junction.
