A SOUTHAMPTON teacher has told how a burglar broke into her home then stole and crashed her car while she sat upstairs.

Sophie Woodford and her husband Adam did not hear a thing while they watched television upstairs at their home in Maybush.

It wasn’t until went downstairs that she couldn’t find the keys to her five-year-old white

Mercedes A180, and noticed that a kitchen stool had been pulled out.

The 23-year-old PE teacher for SuperStar Sports said: “It was at this point that I suddenly panicked and ran outside to find my car was gone.

“I reported it to the police, and they had a helicopter out and everything.

“They found it in Lockerley Crescent. It was completely smashed and had crashed into a parked car.

“What would’ve happened if I was downstairs as well?

“I don’t know how many of them there were, or if they had weapons.”

The Thirlmere Road resident added: “The worst part is, my house keys were on the set of keys with the car ones. We’ve not been sleeping, because its so horrible. “We changed our locks Saturday morning.

“On Sunday night it sounded like someone was trying to get in our back door.They must have thought the keys would still work.”

Police have now issued an appeal to for witnesses to help track down the thief.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: “We are investigating a burglary which took place in Thirlmere Road, Southampton.

“In the early hours of December 15, a house was broken into and a Mercedes was stolen from the driveway..”
