THIS Southampton pub has charity and tradition at the forefront of its operations.

The Humble Plumb, a Wadworth pub in the heart of Bitterne, has seen massive support for local charities since Stephen Cooper took over as manager in September last year.

As well as the charity work, the 55-year-old has been able to keep to traditional pub values, including the food menu and cask ales.

The pub’s décor includes traditional pictures of the surrounding Bitterne area, including a picture of regulars from years gone by.

Stephen, a Bitterne resident, said: “We save money from our meat draws every week, and we have raised enough to host a three-course lunch for 24 lonely residents over Christmas.

“We had a full afternoon cream tea, raising money for Bursledon House on two separate occasions.

“We have also raised money for the neo-natal ward, Solent Mind and dementia charities.”

Revellers have helped the pub raise this money through family fun days, coffee mornings and even a back-to-school disco night.

The Commercial Street premises has traditional bar food, classic dishes, cask ales and wine available from the glass.

“There are not a lot of pubs like this left now,” The 55-year-old added.

The most popular items on the menu are the hamburger and chips, fish and chips, and the much-loved roast dinner on Sundays.

The lunchtime food includes sandwiches, jacket potatoes and traditional lunches, and customers can purchase anything from bar nibbles up to a full three-course meal at any point during the day.

They serve seven cask ales, as well as lagers, ciders and an extensive wine list that is available by the glass.

Their most popular drink is the Wadworth 6X.
