EMERGENCY services were called to a serious Christmas Day crash in Southampton – involving an alleged drink driver.

Police, paramedics and firefighters attended the crash on Thornhill Park Road last night.

Officers say there were injuries sustained in the crash, although they are said not to be serious.

They say one driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

On Twitter, Hants Road Policing said: "Collision on Thornhill Park Road, Southampton which has just been cleared.

"Fortunately, injuries not too serious but one driver arrested."

Local resident Paul Prentice, 48, a telecommunications worker said: “It was pretty horrendous.

"There was a wheel half way down the road and the car was in bits. It was chaos.”

Just months ago staff at Lallys convenience store on the same street witnessed a lorry coming towards them and crashing into the traffic lights outside the shop.

Daily Echo:

One worker said: “They use this bit of pavement as road when the traffic is building up.

"I was in here yakking away and heard a bang, looked up and the lorry was coming towards me. I was shaking. It shook me up.”
