ABP Southampton is installing electric vehicle charging points for cruise customers in short stay terminal car parks.

The Rolec charging points will be installed across each of the port’s four short stay car parks providing spaces for holidaymakers and all staff to charge their electric vehicles.

ABP Southampton is a strong advocate for zero emission vehicles and has invested in a fleet of 13 Nissan electric cars to replace the diesel cars and vans previously used by employees travelling across the port. The company continues to expand its fleet of electric vehicles so that by 2020, 100% of ABP’s vehicles that can be, will be emission free.

Introducing these charging points is part of a series of wider environmental commitments ABP Southampton set out in its Air Quality Strategy published in the summer. Providing facilities that encourage customers to travel to the port using zero emissions is part of the port’s long-term sustainability strategy and contributes towards ABP Southampton’s commitment to help improve the air quality in and around the city.

Alastair Welch, ABP Southampton Director, said: “This is another step forwards for the port as we continue to deliver on the comprehensive plan of actions set out in our environmental strategy in the summer.”

The charging points will be in place in January, ready for the start of a busy cruise season in the spring.
