A SOUTHAMPTON charity has fed more than 100 people for Christmas.

The Southampton Sunday Lunch Project (SSLP), which runs clubs in Freemantle and Woolston, hosted its 2108 Christmas Lunch on Sunday.

Mayor Stephen Barnes-Andrews attended the event as the SSLP is one of the two charities he has chosen to support during his year in office.

Lunch organiser Dennis O’Shea said: “We provided over 100 free lunches to people that are, homeless, retired/working poor. struggling with health problem and in need of a good lunch and company.

“The generosity of people, companies and organisations was amazing and ensured that people in need had a great Christmas lunch and provided for many Sunday lunches into 2019.

“This generosity ensures we enter the new year with a good balance to ensure we continue to provide free Sunday lunches every week to people in need.

Owtons The Butchers and Trojan’s Rugby Club provided a huge quantity of fresh turkey and vegetables which was prepared and cooked by volunteers at the club.

Councillor Dan Fitzhenry on behalf of the Rotary Club of Southampton, Richard Kirkman Trust, St Mary’s Independent School and Carbon Neutral Printing Ltd. presented cheques to the mayor for SSLP.
