Saints fans were eager to queue up and net themselves a ticket for the FA Cup third round proper tie against Blackpool. The match took place on January 10 when The Seasiders beat Southampton 2-1.

Racing driver Mike Hawthorn was killed after his car collided with a tree on the A3 near Guildford. He was driving a Jaguar 3.4-litre.

Dense fog caused caused transport chaos across much of the United Kingdom. London was said to have been the worst affected.
