POLICE have charged two men after a mass brawl on New Year's Day in Southampton.

It comes after police were called to a "large scale public order incident" between two groups of New Year's revellers.

The incident Laburnum Road and Honeysuckle Road, Swaythling, around 1am on Tuesday, January 1.

Police say several people were thought to be assaulted in the incident and three people were arrested.

Today, police have charged two men with affray.

Samuel Peter Boylan, 29, of Honeysuckle Road and Alexander Plommer, 41, of Honeysuckle Road have both been charged on suspicion of affray.

They will appear before Southampton Magistrates today.

As part of our enquiries, a 19-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

He has since been released from police custody but remains under investigation.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident.
