EASTLEIGH Pride is set to return this year.

Eastleigh BID – which represents businesses in the town and who organise the event – revealed it will take place on September 7.

Thousands of people attended the event, which took place at Leigh Recreation Ground for the first time last year.

Information stalls, live music, lots of food and children’s attractions entertained residents throughout the day.

Several artists including Henry Newbury, the Solent Gay Men’s Chorus, the Oxfordshire Drag Collective and drag Queen Misty Lee also performed.

Revellers said the event exceeded their expectations.

Debbie Sewell, 36, a teacher, from Southampton, said: “It was gorgeous, really well done Eastleigh. It was a really friendly atmosphere.”

Teresa Swann, Eastleigh BID Manager said: “After the huge response and sheer amount of people who attended the event in 2018, we really feel that there is a huge desire to bring it back this year, and hopefully even bigger.”

“We have begun working hard to make sure that we create the same family friendly atmosphere for 2019, with more glitz and glam.”

This year Eastleigh BID will be relying on fundraising to cover costs of the event.

Eastleigh BID is set to host a Winter Pride Party on February 23 to help raise funds.

A spokesperson said that more information about the Winter Ball will be revealed in the coming weeks.
