THE theme was That’s Entertainment and the response was met with enthusiasm and gusto.
About 100 colourful floats took part in the parade on July 15, 1978 – the centrepiece being the Carnival Queen’s horse-drawn landau.
The Carnival Queen, Jo Hobbs, with Princesses Kim Furnish and Sandra Weber, led a galaxy of ‘royalty’. These included the Queen of Le Havre, Catherine Dumouchet along with the local carnival queens.
For two-and-a-half hours they moved along High Street, turning off at West Street, and coming back into Above Bar. Then up London Road, along The Avenue and on to the Common.
