YES, Cara, there are a lot of worthy and unheralded programmes on the radio; and you are still happy with your little black and white telly which you won in 1972 (Echo, Saturday).

But take it from this skinflint: you could be taking full advantage of a great range of natural science programmes available on BBCs 1,2 and 4 (and occasionally the commercial channels) in glorious colour.

Yes, you may be saving about 28p a day with just a monochrome licence, but think of what you're missing!

As for the 37 other Sotonians still with black and white licences, I wonder how many of them are visually impaired, in one way or another.
