AN AWARD-WINNING Hampshire butcher has released plans to build a new farm shop.

Plans to construct a new one storey farm shop on land in West End have been submitted to planning chiefs.

The farm shop would be in association with the adjoining butchery, Owton’s Traditional Family Butchers, with car parking, service area and new vehicle access at Chalcroft Farm.

The proposed site for the shop is currently used for grazing, according to plans submitted to councillors. The plan outlines 24 parking spaces with two disabled bays. The shop would be open from 7am to 5pm on weekdays, 7am to 4pm on Saturdays and 10am to 3pm on Sundays.

Chalcroft Farm is 225 acres of land which is owned by the Owton’s family and the onsite buildings include a butchery and an original farm shop.

The Owton family have been farming the land for more than 600 years and Owton’s Traditional Family Butchers was founded in 1976 by Rob and Gill Owton.

The business has a further four farm shops at Kimbridge, Garsons, Country Market and at Rosebourne near Andover.

The company have since won a food Oscar at the Great Taste Awards for their Corporal Jones sausage.

Owton’s currently hold the title for ‘Iconic British Sausage’. Today, the company supplies 40 per cent of Chalcroft’s beef to butchers, restaurants and retail customers.

The application is to go to the West End Local Area Committee on February 6.
