CONGRATULATIONS to Cara Sandys for keeping her old black and white television for so long (Echo January 5) and for refusing to succumb to the wasteful and environmentally damaging modern obsession with continual upgrading of electrical items whenever new models come along.

I have never owned a television and I have no desire to acquire one. Terry Hickman (letters January 12) is quite wrong to imply that my life lacks colour.

Like many others who live without television, I choose to live surrounded by the rich and varied colours of real life in preference to synthetic pixels.
