SOUTHAMPTON businesses are invited to meet and support those who risk their lives every day to protect us.

Local businesses and organisations have the opportunity to meet with the Armed Forces community at an event set to take place at the civic centre next month.

This comes after in July 2018 more than 5,000 visitors came to the city for Southampton’s first Armed Forces Day.

Now Southampton businesses and organisations will be given the opportunity to find out how they can mutually benefit from engaging with the defence community, which includes service leavers, service spouses, reservists, ex-members of the cadets and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers.

The free event that will take place between 9.30am and 2.30pm on February 6.

There, businesses will have the opportunity to sign up to the covenant, which is a declaration of mutual support between Southampton’s civilian community and the Armed Forces.

Organised by the 11 Infantry Brigade & Headquarters South East and hosted by the council, the day will also aim to raise awareness of the covenant, the national Employer Recognition Scheme and the importance of local businesses signing up.

Armed Forces champion at Southampton City Council, councillor Catherine McEwing said: “We’re inviting local businesses to attend the event and enjoy a free buffet lunch and networking opportunities with representatives from other local organisations and colleagues from Defence.”
