A UNIVERSITY student and father-to-be who was caught dealing heroin in a Southampton street has been jailed.

Pius Abrahams was caught with heroin, bulking agent, £250 and four mobile phones when police stopped him.

One of the phones had what were described in court as “marketing” texts, advertising drugs for sale.

The 27-year-old was jailed for four years at Southampton Crown Court .

The court heard how Abrahams was spotted by police in Clovelly Road, Southampton, in July, acting suspiciously. Officers tracked the performing arts student at Southampton Solent University, but lost him.

When they found him again, he was sitting in a car, which police approached.

As they did, Abrahams lobbed out a mobile phone box, which contained a 3.4g stash of heroin and some herbal cannabis.

Officers later searched the car and found 17 grams of powder, containing paracetamol and caffeine, which can be used to bulk out the quantity of drugs, as well as four mobile phones and £250 in cash. Police believed with the mixing agent that Abraham had enough material to make around 35 sales.

Prosecutor Isabel Delamere said Abrahams had 33 previous convictions for 19 offences – mostly related to possession of cannabis.

One of those was when the former bodybuilder, now personal trainer, attacked his girlfriend and urinated on her possessions before a police chase in Southampton. He was sentenced 16 months in jail along given a driving ban of two years and eight months.

In mitigation, the court heard how Abrahams, of Lynmouth Road, London, was dealing drugs in order to fund his own habit. She added he had kicked his addiction while in prison and was set to restart his university course.

The court also heard how Abrahams was set to become a father, with his current girlfriend two months pregnant.

Abrahams, who admitted possession of heroin with intent to supply, was also given a four month sentence for possession of cannabis, which will run concurrently to his sentence.
