A MAN pictured in CCTV images released by police investigating the rape of a woman has been identified by officers.

Hampshire Constabulary issued pictures of a man they wanted to speak to following an attack on a woman in Riverside Park, off Woodmill Lane, Southampton, between 11.30pm and 11.50pm on Sunday, December 2.

Previously, police released a video showing a man walking near the area, as well as pictures of a man following a woman from Sainsbury's on Burgess Road, down Langhorn Road, and onto Woodmill Lane.

The man in the images outside Sainsbury's has been identified but police are still asking the public for information on him.

Following the incident, DI Roger Wood said: "Remember to stay safe, please try to avoid walking alone at night, consider taking a taxi or a lift or just stick with friends and look out for each other. If you are walking alone anywhere, stick to well-lit areas and remain vigilant.

"Be aware of your surroundings and remind friends and family to do the same. Be wary of people around you, if you think you might be being followed seek help or a safe place if there is one nearby.”
