WESLEY Hoedt has completed his move to Celta Vigo.

The defender joined the Spanish club on loan for the remainder of the season and the La Liga side will have an option to buy him in the summer.

Hoedt has made 13 appearances this season, but they all came under former manager Mark Hughes.

New Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl decided early on that the central defender wasn’t going to feature in his plans and he found himself exiled.

The Dutch international joined the St Mary’s club in 2017 from Lazio in a deal worth £15m.

He’s leaving Saints 18 months into a five-year contract, but his departure will free up some space in the squad which Hasenhuttl can begin to add to.

In total, Hoedt played 45 times for Saints, scoring one goal which came in the FA Cup victory against West Brom in February 2018.

Hoedt will join fellow Saints loanee Sofiane Boufal at Celta Vigo, after he signed a season-long loan deal with the La Liga side last summer.

However, the club suffered their fourth successive defeat on Saturday, which has left them fourth from bottom in the table.

Hoedt also joins Steven Davis and Manolo Gabbiadini in leaving Saints during this transfer window.
