A SEARCH and rescue operation was launched in the early hours of this morning (Friday) following fears a passenger had jumped from a Wightlink ferry.
The male passenger, travelling on the Victoria of Wight car ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, was reported missing shortly after 1am.
A UK Coastguard spokesperson said the alarm was raised after he failed to turn up for a taxi he had booked.
The Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams, together with Ryde Inshore Rescue, searched the area off Fishbourne.
Fortunately, the incident turned out to be a false alarm as the man had made his own way home.
He was found at home shortly afterwards, safe and well.
