TWO men have been arrested after a teenage girl fought off someone attempting to grab her.

The duo, aged 29 and 23-years-old, were arrested on suspicion of attempted abduction after a 16-year-old girl was followed by a man who tried to talk to her and attempted to grab her in Southampton.

The girl was able to break-free from his grip and run away before contacting the police.

The incident happened near the junction of Cuckmere Lane and Brookwood Road, inset, on January 30.

Police have said the incident happened at around 11.30am that morning.

It has been reported that the man was driving a black Mercedes and is described as a young black male of medium build.

The two men were arrested on January 31 but have since been released from custody.

The pair remain under investigation at this time and police have confirmed that “enquiries are ongoing”.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: “A 16-year-old was followed by a man in a black Mercedes in Southampton.

“The incident occurred at around 11.30am near the junction of Cuckmere Lane and Brookwood Road, on Wednesday, January 30.

“The girl reported that the man had followed her and tried to speak with her before attempting to grab her. She managed to break free and ran away.”

The spokesman added: “Two men aged 29 and 23 were arrested in connection with this on suspicion of attempted abduction. They have been released from custody but remain under investigation.
