ORGANISERS of 1978’s Hampshire Country Fair were hoping for an attendance of 5,000 – they got more than 8,000.

The fair, held on July 15, offered country crafts as well as demonstrations of farming techniques and agricultural history.

Sheepdog trials for novice dogs was said to have attracted a large amount of interest.

The fair was officially opened by the chairman of the Hampshire County Council, Councillor Lynton White, who thanked the local farming community for their help in staging the event.
