Bridge Street in Fordingbridge, in the New Forest, will soon benefit from Hampshire County Council’s Operation Resilience programme.

Councillor Rob Humby, Executive Member for Environment and Transport, said: “Looking after Hampshire’s extensive road network is one of our top priorities. Our planned maintenance programme, Operation Resilience, is a long term strategy designed to ensure Hampshire’s road network is more resilient to the impact of heavy traffic and weather. The programme sees an additional investment of £10 million each year and our engineers will consider the most appropriate treatments to extend the life of road surfaces while at the same time getting the best value for money.

“I would like to reassure local residents that we will do all we can to minimise disruption to traffic during these essential works, but ask that people bear with us while the repairs are carried out.”

From Monday 11 February the blockwork will be replaced and the carriageway resurfaced along Bridge Street from the junction with the A338 northbound slip-road to the junction with High Street.

The scheme is expected to last for around four weeks, during which time the road will remain closed to traffic in order for the works to be carried out safely and as quickly as possible. A signed alternative route will be available and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
