THIS years Hendy Eastleigh 10k has sold out with the largest number of female entries.

The initiative which is in its 35th year is set to take place on March 24 at Fleming Park will see 2,900 runners take part,making it one of the largest 10k's in the country.

This years race which is sponsored by south coast-based Hendy is also set to see the highest number of female runners in the history of the initiative.

1311 women have signed up to take part in this years race in comparison to 1176 in 2017.

Race organiser Steve Collins said “It's a fantastic response from runners for this great annual running event that has now sold out.

"The continued support from Hendy is fantastic and helps to make this one of the most prestigious 10k's in the country as well as fantastic community event.

“The race provides an ideal focus and challenge for new year's resolutions on the fast, flat 10k course.

"It attracts people of all ages and abilities and this year the new Achievement Awards mean that anyone who ran last year will have the chance of winning an award if they can improve on their time in 2018.”

Steve added: "It’s great that this year we also have the largest number of entries in the history of the race from female runners with over 1300 taking part.

"Entries from female runners has been increasing year on year and now equates to 46% of the total entry as opposed to 42% just two years ago.

" I’m sure everyone will have an enjoyable day and a great run.”

Hendy will be the title sponsor for the event for the fourth consecutive year.

Hendy Group Managing Director Paul Hendy said: "We are delighted to again join forces with one of the most well established running events in the region.

"The popularity of the event seems to be growing every year.

"It promises to be another great event and we look forward to welcoming all the runners to Eastleigh in March for the race which starts and finishes within sight of our new Leigh Road dealerships."

The race will start at 9am and is suitable for those aged 15 or over.

Children ages 4 to 12 years old will also be able to take part in a fun run from 11am held around Flemming Park.
