AN INQUEST has opened into the death of a man after he was found in a school car park.

Winchester Coroner’s Court heard George Watt died at Southampton General Hospital on February 2 after being found in the car park of Norwood Primary School, in Chamberlayne Road.

A Hampshire police spokesman has since confirmed they were called to a report of “a collapsed male in a car park” at 8.20am.

The spokesman added the 20-year-old, of Cranbury Road, Eastleigh, was rushed to hospital by ambulance, but did not survive, and they are not treating the death as suspicious.

A preliminary cause of death was not given at the hearing, as pathologist Dr Vipul Foria said he was still awaiting toxicology results, and further details of Mr Watt’s death were not revealed.

Tributes have been paid online and a GoFundMe page has already beaten a £1,000 target to buy a gift to help his family remember him. The total was nearly £4,300.

Senior coroner Grahame Short adjourned the inquest until July 16.

A spokesman for Hampshire County Council – which manages Norwood Primary School – said: “We were saddened to hear of the death of Mr Watt, who was found on the site of one of the county’s schools, outside of school hours, and we would like to express our sincere condolences to the family.”
