A CAMPAIGN has been launched to pay respects to a "very brave" soldier in Southampton.

George Peter Osborne, 96, died at Southampton General Hospital last month, and directors say two people are currently attending his funeral.

According to the RAF museum in London, Mr Osborne was a signaller in Bomber Command Crew during the Second World War.

Graham Charles said: "Two friends are arranging his funeral for Thursday, February 14, at the East Chapel of Southampton Crematorium at 9.45am.

"There is so far two people attending his funeral.

"Is there anyone out there that could help to swell the ranks and give this brave hero who has no family a fitting send-off?"

Social media users have been quick to throw their support behind the campaign.

Andrea Hitchiner said: "I hope this gentleman gets the send-off he deserves."

Annabel Palmer said: "This is so sad! I cannot attend, but I really hope he gets a good send-off and lots of people can make it."
