CHILDREN and teachers at a Southampton school are celebrating after being named in the country’s top 3%.
Secretary of state for education, Damian Hinds MP, wrote to head teacher Ursula Clark to congratulate her on “very high progress levels”.
Results released in December 2017 showed pupils’ progress scores of 4.9 for reading, 4.8 for writing and 3.6 in maths.
And a report from the diocese of Portsmouth published just this week said the Hillcrest Road school was “outstanding”.
Teachers were told “excellent relationships between all members of the community” led to a “loving and trusting environment” where “all are encouraged and supported to achieve their full potential”.
Now pupils are helping raise cash for a vital Southampton charity. The youngsters went to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton hospital, and are holding a bring-and-buy sale at the school today.
Ms Clark – who has been at the school since 2005 said: “Our children do a lot of charity work, and it tends to be for local charities.
“They gave presents to 140 residents at local care homes at Christmas. As a school we encourage our children to do a lot of outreach work touching the lives of others through faith, prayers, words and action.
On their successful results she said: “It’s about each child doing the best they can do and about them reaching their potential.”
Last year Ofsted inspectors said the school is “welcoming and inclusive.”
