SOUTHAMPTON lovers are among the most frugal in the UK, new research has revealed.
Married couples were found to spend an average of £35 on a date, leaving the city joint 12th in a poll of 15 cities around the country.
The research, which was conducted by 118 118 Money in the run up to Valentine's Day, surveyed married couples to find out the average spend on a bill for a date with their other half.
Southampton residents tied with Birmingham in 12th place, while Bristol lovers were the most generous, spending on average £170 on a date.
Sheffield was found to be the most frugal city with an average of £25 spent on a date, while the average across the UK was just over £75.
